Gabungan Industri Kendaraan Bermotor Indonesia (Gaikindo) released data of car sales throughout 2017 was recorded at 1,079,534 units, including trucks in it. When compared with 2016, the figure grew by 1.6%.

From more than a million cars sold, Japanese manufacturers are still dominant market share with a share of 98% or 1,060,236 units.

Recorded, currently, there are 13 Japanese manufacturers in Indonesia, among others, Toyota, Daihatsu, Nissan, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Honda, Isuzu, Hino, Mazda, UD Truck, Lexus, Subaru, Infiniti, and Datsun.

Another interesting note, the relatively new Chinese car brand in Indonesia has been able to sell 5,418 units in Indonesia with a share of 1%. Manufacturers of vehicles from the Bamboo Curtain country, among others Wuling, Sokon, Geely, Faw, Photon, and Chery.

Then the European brand with total sales of 7,078 units or 1%. European brands are divided into 13 companies namely Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Fiat, Volkswagen, MAN Truck, Scania, Audi, Smart, Mini, Peugeot, Renault, Volvo, Jaguar, Bentley, Land Rover, and Alfa Romeo.

Manufacturers outside Japan, Europe, and China are still relatively small alias below 1%. Like the South Korean brand with two manufacturers namely KIA and Hyundai which both sales only 2,108 units.

Then the United States brand with manufacturers Ford, Chevrolet, Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler which can only sell 3,617 units. After that there is the Indian brand that Tata with 1,065 units of sales, and Malaysia's latest brand of Proton with sales of only 12 units.
